NF News | 2024 Ontario Martial Arts Games & Selection Event Successfully Held in Ontario

On May 18-19, the 2024 Ontario Martial Arts Games & Selection Event, presented by Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organizations and organized by Wushu Ontario, was successfully held at the CICS Multipurpose Hall in Scarborough, Ontario.

Many VIP representatives attended the event. VIPs from all three levels of government from Scarborough-Agincourt, where WushuCanada is headquartered include: Mr. Paul Chiang, Member of Parliament, Ms. Jean Yip, Member of Parliament, Mr. Aris Babikian, Member of the Provincial Parliament of Scarborough-Agincourt, and Mr. Nick Mantas, City Councillor of Scarborough-Agincourt. Especially, Mr. WANG Yanjun, the Counsellor & Consul for Cultural Affairs at The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, and Mr. Zhou Rongcheng, the Deputy Consul were also present to deliver congratulations to the event.

This competition was an important event for selecting national team members for the upcoming Canada National Championships, the 14th Pan American Wushu Championships, and the 4th World Taijiquan Championships. The events included taolu, traditional, optional and compulsory taichi, and sanda. Additionally, a Warrior Challenge was introduced to encourage more novice participants under the age of 14 to engage in wushu.Over 300 participants from various cities, including Barrie, Aurora, Waterloo, Kitchener, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, gathered for the competition.

The event showcased the talents and strengths of wushu athletes from across Canada and served as excellent preparation for upcoming international competitions. We look forward to their outstanding performances in the future tournaments!
